Credit For Life is not a lender
Credit For Life (Credit for Life LLC) is a free loan-matching service, not a lender. We do not make loans, set loan terms, or make credit decisions. When you submit a request through our site, it is shared with third-party lenders and lending partners in our network who may choose to make you an offer.
Because we are not a lender, Credit For Life does not hold a lending license for the loan products offered by our network partners. Our loan request form at /apply/ is built and operated by an independent network partner, not by Credit For Life. The lenders, sponsored listings and partners you may be matched with through that form are separate companies, and each one is responsible for holding whatever license or registration its own state requires.
How lenders in our network are licensed
Most lenders and lending partners in our network are companies that make consumer loans, and licensing requirements depend on the loan product and the state where the consumer lives.
California lenders
Lenders that make installment loans in California are typically licensed or registered with the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) under the California Financing Law (Cal. Fin. Code §22000 et seq.).
Payday lenders
Lenders that make payday loans (deferred deposit transactions) in California are licensed under the California Deferred Deposit Transaction Law (Cal. Fin. Code §23000 et seq.).
Other states
Lenders operating outside California must meet the licensing or registration requirements of their own state regulators, which vary by state and by loan product.
How to verify a lender's license
Before you share personal information or agree to any loan terms, you can check a lender's license yourself using free government tools.
Get the lender's full legal name
Ask the lender for its full legal company name, and note it exactly as given, since search tools match on the registered name.
Search DFPI's licensee database
Use the DFPI licensee search at dfpi.ca.gov to confirm a California license or registration under the California Financing Law or the Deferred Deposit Transaction Law.
Check NMLS Consumer Access
Many lenders also carry a Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) number. Look up the company at nmlsconsumeraccess.org to see where it is licensed or registered.
State availability
Availability of lenders and loan products through our network varies by state. Credit For Life's primary market is California, and not every lender in our network operates in every state. Loan amounts, rates and terms depend on the specific lender and the state where you apply.
Credit for Life LLC's own licensing or registration status, where required, is listed here once issued.
